In areas that experience four seasons, I've seen companies and homeowners purchase ice melt 3 months prior to the upcoming winter months. This isn't paranoia. This is clever persevering for not only possible snow or ice storms but ice melt shortages.
Tons of ice melt enter the United States but current economic issues could not only force price increases but shortages. Shortages in chemicals used to manufacture and produce ice melt, plastics for bagging ice melt, pallets for stacking ice melt and the plastics used to wrap full pallets of ice melt are all shortage possibilities. Then there's the workforce required in the manufacturing process: machinery, trucks, fuel, employees, etc.
